No Retirement For Eastwood

Nor should he! The old timer is on fire!
Clint Eastwood is getting right back to work in the biz and has just lined up his next directing gig. Clint will be getting his hands dirty on a biopic of J. Edgar Hoover and his days as the controversial FBI director.
A studio hasn't picked up the project yet, but no doubt it will be Warner Bros., which has been his home for the last zillion flicks he's done.
Hmm. Wonder if Clint will act as Hoover as well? Not like he hasn't done that before!

Matt Damon is “honored” to be mentioned in Shakira’s lyrics
Any day in which I get to watch an interview with Matt Damon or Johnny Depp is a good one, so I’m counting my blessings today. MTV’s Josh Horowitz, who is among my favorite interviewers, talked to Invictus stars Damon and Morgan Freeman about their upcoming film. Horowitz threw in some interesting questions about their other projects and also asked Matt about a Shakira song in which he’s mentioned, “Men in This Town.” The lyrics are: “Is there a prince in this fable/ For a small-town girl like me? The good ones are gone or not able/ And Matt Damon’s not meant for me.” Matt says he’s aware of the song and that Shakira even sent a “sweet note” to his wife and him along with the CD:
When MTV News caught up with Damon at the “Invictus” junket, the Oscar winner revealed his feelings about being named on the track. “I heard about this. I know, I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Somebody told me that recently. Shakira actually sent my wife and I her new [CD] with a sweet note. We know her and she’s great, and I’m honored to be in one of her lyrics.”
It’s easy for Damon to understand a woman like Shakira. His wife, Luciana, was born in Argentina. “Oh yeah, [I'm a fan],” he said. “I live in a Latin house. That’s just the way it is.”
Shakira recently sat down with MTV News to chat about the song and explained that Damon’s name was just the right fit for the tune. “I know Matt Damon,” she said. “I know him and his wife. It’s all good. This is a song and Damon really rhymed with the other word. Matt Damon is actually a terrific dude — I’m saying it in a good way. What I’m actually saying is there aren’t many great guys out there and Matt Damon is one of them. I love Matt Damon. He’s so great. He’s a good sport, too.”

There’s more interesting stuff in the interview, which is split into several segments on MTV’s site - you can watch them back to back here. Morgan Freeman sort-of confirms that director Chris Nolan will be back for a third Batman film, but it’s more of an instinct he has than a certainty. He said “I know, I just know, that Chris is working on number three. He couldn’t possibly not be.” He also said that he’d like to see a catwoman villain in the next installment, and that he had someone in mind but that he wasn’t going to name names. When Horowitz brought up Angelina Jolie as a potential catwoman Freeman actually made a sexy growling noise! It was cute.
Damn said that he was originally up for the role of played by Josh Brolin in Milk and that he had done his research. A scheduling conflict interfered when the film had to be pushed up. Damon said it worked out the way it was supposed to. “Josh was phenomenal. The movie gets who the movie should get.” He also confirmed that he was considering the role of Harvey Dent in Batman, but that a scheduling interfered with that one too.
Horowitz also has a series of interviews with Clint Eastwood (watch them here). The best part is when he asks about his daughters Francesca, 16, and Morgan, 13, and their interests. One is a big Taylor Swift fan, and Eastwood says he also likes Taylor Swift’s music. “I didn’t switch off of a jazz station to hear it. Sometimes you listen to pop radio just to hear what’s going on.” He also said he knew who Lady Gaga was and that “I know she’s very big… and my kids have listened to her.” As for Twilight, he said he didn’t go to see New Moon with his daughters, but that his wife went and “It’s not that I’m a bad parent or anything. I just thought maybe I’d like my wife take that one.”
Invictus is out in the US tomorrow, December 11, and it looks like pure Oscar bait. It’s a true story about Nelson Mandela working with a top South African rugby player to help unite the country in his first term in 1995. Here’s the trailer.

Clint Eastwood is GQ’s Man of the Year, blasts “teenage twits”
I think people think Clint Eastwood is at death’s door or something, because everyone seems to be falling all over themselves to recognize him and his enormous talent. Which is right no - Clint is awesome, and he deserves every award you can throw at him. But I have a feeling people are just trying to get in there before he kicks the bucket. In my mind, though, Clint has still got a good decade or two. He’s 79 years old - and his mother is still around.
Anyway, Clint is GQ’s Man of the Year, and they have him on the cover (GQ honored other people too - here’s the list). I love Clint’s face. There is no bigger rebuke to the Botoxed, waxy, severe, gross, plastic faces of modern Hollywood than Clint’s grizzled visage. Sigh. I love him. In the cover interview, Clint even blasts “teenage twits” and says we’re “juvenile” as a nation. Clint is about to shank us.
Clint Eastwood is better known for his fists than his fashion sense, but that didn’t stop GQ magazine from naming him a man of the year.
Eastwood joins Barack Obama, Tom Brady, the three stars of “The Hangover” and “Star Trek” actor Chris Pine on five special covers for the December issue (www.gq.com), which hits newsstands Tuesday.
Eastwood talks politics, love, religion, diet and women in a wide-ranging interview with deputy editor Michael Hainey, who calls the 79-year-old the “patron saint of late bloomers.”
Eastwood gained fame for his acting in the spaghetti Westerns of the 1960s, but won his first Oscar (for directing) for “Unforgiven” at age 62.
His new movie, “Invictus,” is the true story of Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) and the mostly white South African rugby team that helped usher the country out of apartheid.
“The world needs this kind of story nowadays,” Eastwood said. “It’s just…everybody’s so screwed up. It seems like our country’s in kind of a morbid mood, because of the recession or whatever.”
We’re “becoming more juvenile as a nation,” he said. “The guys who won World War II and that whole generation have disappeared, and now we have a bunch of teenage twits.”
Eastwood meditates twice a day, avoids saturated fats and does 30 minutes on the elliptical machine each morning.
He used to “find meaning” in chasing girls, but says he’s now happily monogamous.”I never thought I’d get there, but I did. It feels good.”

In another piece of Clint news, last week he received the French Legion of Honor, presented to him by President Sarko himself. It’s basically France’s lifetime achievement award, and Clint received it for his body of work as an actor, director, composer and producer. Clint actually looked pleased and honored to receive the award - I figured he would scoff at something like that, but he looks genuinely happy. He told the press, “This is a wonderful honor. It is just a great pleasure for me. I really love France. I love movies, and I love the appreciation that the French people have for movies.” He also promised to learn French for the next time he came to France, which is cute. Fun fact: Clint is fluent in Italian, probably from all of the films he shot in Italy in the sixties. Good stuff. I wonder what honor is coming for Clint next? Perhaps a Nobel prize, or something. Does the Nobel committee give prizes for being awesome?

Clint Eastwood Honored by the French!

American screen icon Clint Eastwood was made a commander in France’s prestigious Legion of Honor on Friday. French President Nicolas Sarkozy presented the 79-year-old actor and director with the decoration, honoring his body of work, his longevity and his ability to delight audiences around the globe, according to the award citation.
Speaking in English, Eastwood thanked Sarkozy and the French people.
“This is a wonderful honor,” Eastwood said. “It is just a great pleasure for me. I really love France. I love movies, and I love the appreciation that the French people have for movies.”
Eastwood also promised to be fluent in French the next time he returned to the country, which he called his “second home.”
