Elin Woods’ settlement will be around $100 million, not $750 million

Before the holiday weekend, most outlets were repeating the story that Elin Woods had already snared a whopping $750 million settlement in her divorce from former golfing great Tiger Woods. That story originated in British newspaper The Sun and seemed to confirm the rumors that Elin would receive a settlement in the jaw-dropping range of $700 million.

The news was either premature or just not true, according to TMZ. They have Elin winning the divorce lottery to the tune of a relatively reasonable $100 million. It’s still a huge amount of money and much more than her prenup stipulated, but not quite the 3/4 of a billion that we thought. As part of her settlement, Elin reportedly agreed to a confidentiality clause that would bar her from talking to the media or writing a book. I was really hoping to get to know Elin through some kind of semi-tell all interview, but it looks like that’s never going to happen.

Tiger Woods’ soon-to-be ex-wife is about to become an independently wealthy woman, but we’ve learned she’s legally prohibited from blabbing about it.

Sources tell TMZ Elin Nordegren and Tiger have agreed to a confidentiality clause as part of their divorce settlement. So Elin can’t go on “Oprah,” she can’t do interviews, and she can’t write a book.

But what she gets in return is nothing to sneeze at. TMZ broke the story, Elin will snag about $100 million in the settlement … way more than she was entitled to under the prenup.

Why, you ask, would Tiger give her more than she’d get under the prenup? Other than guilt, Tiger wanted to avoid a trial at all costs … the testimony would have been beyond messy.

[From TMZ]

Tiger is worth around $500 - $600 million, according to TMZ. Elin will also receive a no-doubt hefty monthly child support payment along with that sweet settlement.

Fox News has a slideshow of the most expensive celebrity divorces, completed when it was thought that Tiger’s divorce was record-setting. Now we know that Michael Jordan’s $168 million settlement in his 2002 divorce is still the largest celebrity divorce settlement on record. Neil Diamond’s $150 million 1995 settlement is a close second.

Meanwhile Tiger is trying to claw his way back to the top of his sport despite his neck injury. He finished a respectable fifth in the U.S. Open two weeks ago, having won the tournament in 2008, 2002, and 2000. He didn’t fare as well at the AT&T National this weekend, though, and placed 14th.

The couple has recently found themselves embroiled in some scandal after Tiger crashed his vehicle into a tree and fire hydrant during an alleged quarrel with Elin. It is being theorized that the fight was due to some extramarital activities that Mr. Woods had been partaking in. Fame Pictures, Inc

Radar: Tiger Woods is about to sign over $750 million to Elin in their divorce

So I haven’t written about Tiger or Elin Woods in a while, so it came as a surprise to me that they’re so far along in their divorce settlement negotiations, at least according to Radar (who could totally be wrong). Allegedly, Tiger and Elin are finalizing their junk as we speak, and the whole sordid mess will be done shortly. Here’s what struck me however - according to Radar’s sources, Elin is supposed to be getting a $750 million settlement?!? Um, wasn’t Tiger worth $1 billion? So Elin is walking away with three-quarters of his assets?

Tiger Woods divorce is about to become official, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively. The final divorce is imminent, a source close to the situation told RadarOnline.com.

“They’ve agreed on all the major points,” one source told us. “It’s all been worked out privately.

“Both Tiger and Elin are very close to finishing the negotiations and filing and signing the paperwork.”

Elin is expected to receive approximately $750 million in the settlement. RadarOnline.com has obtained new details about the divorce negotiations.

“When they first started negotiating the divorce, it was very acrimonious,” the source told RadarOnline.com. “Elin had a lawyer in California who was very, very aggressive.”

But we learned that Elin switched attorneys months ago and that took much of the anger out of the negotiations.

“Things are now very civil between Tiger and Elin – at least in terms of getting the divorce taken care of,” the source told RadarOnline.com.

Elin lives in a rented house approximately a mile away from Tiger in the Orlando area. At one point their marriage seemed back on track as Elin participated in Tiger’s sex addiction rehab therapy when the golfing great went for in-patient treatment. But when Tiger announced his return to golf things grew very chilly between the couple. One source said Elin believed that Tiger was not sincere about changing his life.

“They don’t interact much at all anyone,” that source told RadarOnline.com. “The nannies take the kids back and forth between their houses. There’s virtually no conversation between Tiger and Elin but that’s an improvement from when all the conversation was angry.”

The divorce terms are being worked out privately and when everything is finished it will be filed in court, the first source said.

“And that day is almost here,” the source added.

[From Radar]

I think Elin must have just come to the point where she simply cut her losses. She let go and just went for the cash because why not? Still, I really have doubts that she’s walking away with $750 million, I really do. I don’t care how many Ho Jo’s waitresses he banged, and I don’t care how lavish their lifestyle was for all of those years, there is no way her lawyers could pull that off, and there is no way his lawyers would agree to it. Half of the assets? Sure. But not $750 million.

People Magazine: Elin Woods could get $700 million, wants full custody

A couple of weeks ago, The Chicago Sun Times reported that Elin Woods was going for an amazing $750 million dollar settlement in her divorce with golfing great Tiger Woods. That number sounded incredibly inflated to me, as Tiger is estimated to be worth about a billion dollars, and that would be 3/4 of his assets, as Kaiser pointed out. Tiger may be worth more than a billion, because People Magazine is reporting that he was willing to sign off on a $700 million settlement! Now that Elin is gunning for full custody of the couple’s two children, though, he allegedly isn’t on board with the terms. Elin recently took her children with her on a trip to China to visit her brother, who works in Shanghai:

“Elin took Sam and Charlie to China but needs to be back in time for Tiger to also be involved with the celebration of Sam’s birthday,” a friend tells PEOPLE.

A source close to the ongoing legal discussions in divorce proceedings between Nordegren and Woods says that a $700-million settlement is not the issue. Causing problems in the negotiations is child custody. They are fighting over the kids.

“Elin now wants full custody of the children because she would prefer they have limited time with Tiger,” a source tells PEOPLE. “Tiger will be generous about a settlement, and in the end will not balk about paying in the neighborhood of $700 million. But he wants joint custody.”

Nordegren is eager to spend a great deal more time in Sweden and may decide to educate her children there. But regardless of how many months a year she will spend in the U.S., the doting mother wants to be the full decision maker when it comes to her children and their welfare.

“Money will not turn out to be the biggest factor in this divorce,” a source tells PEOPLE. “How Sam and Charlie’s time is divided between parents will be.”

[From People]

I’m thinking this report is straight from Tiger’s camp as I’m not buying the story that he’s somehow ok with giving Elin $700 million for just six years of marriage. What’s more is that some sources reported that these two had a prenup in which Elin stood to get just $20 million, plus whatever extra Tiger wanted to throw at her for staying with him during what should have been his golf comeback.

Speaking of Tiger’s comeback, he didn’t even place in the top ten at the PGA Memorial Tournament in Ohio over the weekend. The winner was a 29 year-old British player named Justin Rose, and there was a lot of buzz over young up-and-coming golfers like American Rickie Fowler, 21, who placed second. California-born Ricky Barnes, 29, was fourth, and Irish Rory McIlroy, 21, was tenth. McIlroy made headlines in early May for placing first in the Quail Hollow Championship while setting a new course record.

There’s a new crop of hotshot golfers and Tiger just can’t compete lately. Tiger’s performance was so shaky over the weekend that he accidentally hit three spectators at the match with golf balls. No one was hurt, though, and he signed golf gloves for all of the people he dinged.

Tiger, 34, might not be ready for a comeback either mentally or physically, but he’s showing signs that he’s not worried about his finances. He’s building a new mansion on a 10 acre waterfront estate in Jupiter Island, Florida, for which he paid $40 million.

Elin Norgren wants $750 million & no confidentiality clause

fp_4506373_barm_nordgren_elin_020910

Several weeks ago, CB reported that Elin and Tiger Woods had already begun negotiating their divorce agreement, and that both of them were concerned with confidentiality. Well, so much has changed in just a few weeks. Allegedly. This report comes from Chicago Sun-Times via the New York Daily News - apparently, Elin has not only refused to sign a confidentiality clause (that would ensure she was never able to publicly speak about Tiger Woods publicly), but she’s also started the monetary divorce bid at a whooping $750 million. Tiger Woods is - by most accounts - worth somewhere in the vicinity of a billion dollars. Is years of cheating with dozens of women worth three-quarters of his assets?

It’s a high price for silence. Wronged wife Elin Nordegren is trying to club an eye-popping $750 million out of Tiger Woods in their divorce negotiations, according to reports Friday.

Woods hasn’t agreed yet, but if he does he wants total silence from his soon-to-be ex about the collapse of their marriage - forever, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Nordegren has so far said no to signing a lifetime “confidentiality clause” that would prevent her from writing a book or doing any interviews about the split.

She reportedly also wants full custody of their two kids even though it was first thought the couple were going to agree to joint custody. Sources said the divorce negotiations “have turned extremely testy” and the couple no longer talk to each other.

Nordegren has spent a lot of time away from Woods in recent months. She went to Arizona alone for nearly a week recently and took the kids to Sweden while Woods played golf.

Woods, meanwhile, is hanging out in Florida with a blond woman, who looks a lot like Elin, RadarOnline reported.

[From Gatecrasher]

I think Elin should get a huge settlement, of course. But let’s keep it reasonable. Half of his assets? Sure, I cosign that. But three-quarters? Eh. Maybe it’s just a jumping off point for negotiations, and she’s willing to be talked down to $500 million. But I totally think that Elin should avoid signing any kind of confidentiality clause - those things suck. And she’s yet to tell her story, which many really want to hear.

Elin Nordegren Woods is going to college

California v Stanford
We may not know for sure whether Elin Woods will soon be filing for divorce, but she is moving on with her life. Radar Online reports that she’s taking a college night course this summer at a small liberal arts school near her home in Orlando, Florida. They also have more background on Elin, 30. While I’d heard that she was a nanny to a Swedish golfer when Tiger met her I didn’t know that she was working at a clothing shop in Stockholm when she met the golfer’s wife. She also supposedly wanted to become a child psychologist, so maybe she’s on her way. Elin has been married to Cheetah for six years and is mom to daughter Sam, three, and Charlie, 15 months.

The beautiful blonde started school on Monday night at [a school in] Florida and RadarOnline.com captured exclusive video of her on campus.

The school is just outside of Orlando and is a small private liberal arts school…

Before meeting Tiger she attended Lund University in Sweden.

As her relationship with Tiger has unraveled, Elin has demonstrated more and more independence. She has taken four trips away from him in the past five weeks and is living in a house she rented approximately a mile away from the home they once shared.

Her decision to go back to school came after a conversation with one of her nannies, who revealed that she was enrolled at [the school].

That prompted Elin to explore taking a class in the summer session, which started Monday.

Leaving the children with Tiger, Elin took off from her home Monday and arrived at [the school] in plenty of time for the start of her 6 pm class.

After attending Lund University, Elin worked in a Stockholm clothing store. That’s where she met the wife of Swedish golf star Jesper Parnevik. Mia Parnevik hired her as a nanny to their children.

While working for the Parneviks, Elin met Tiger, who pursued her relentlessly and even enlisted Jesper’s help to get Elin to date him.

Since Tiger’s secret cheating life has been revealed Jesper has said that Tiger is no longer welcome in his home.

Before marrying Tiger, Elin wanted to become a child psychologist. Her father was a successful journalist as served as Washington bureau chief for a Swedish broadcasting company. Her mother Barbro Holmberg is a government minister.

[From Radar Online]

I guess this means that Elin is staying put in Florida for the summer while she takes this course. Sadly Radar published the name of the college and the exact day and time that Elin will be there. There will be a ton of paparazzi there next week and this could discourage her from completing her studies. Elin is a tough one, though, and I bet she’ll stick it out. Good for her for expanding her horizons.

Meanwhile Tiger is next scheduled to play the U.S. open on June 17, the AT&T National on July 1 and the British Open on July 15. He dropped out of the Players Championship two weeks ago, citing an injured neck that he denies is at all connected to his car accident in late November. Doctors note that Tiger’s injury is consistent with whiplash. He has a tough journey ahead of him and it’s doubtful that he’ll return to his former glory after all this, but we’ll see.

Tiger and Elin’s divorce is moving forward, working on confidential agreement

Tiger Woods Addresses Media At Aronimink Golf Club
Various outlets are reporting that Tiger Woods and his estranged wife Elin are moving forward with their divorce, and that they’re working to keep the details confidential and out of the press. They may ultimately be successful, but we’re bound to get some information given the interest in this whole sordid affair. Both TMZ and Radar have the news, with some additional information from The Chicago Sun Times. I’ll just quote them all at once, and it’s worth noting that they’re consistent with both each other and previous reports. Tiger and Elin reportedly want to share joint custody and it’s Elin’s idea to make it a permanent split, having tried to reconcile through counseling and finding Tiger’s response lacking. They’re supposedly still not sure whether they’ll file in the US or in Sweden, but are no longer fighting and are both committed to their children.

TMZ - they want a quick and confidential divorce
Sources very familiar with the situation tell TMZ … the most important thing for both Tiger and Elin is keeping the terms of the divorce confidential. We’re told Tiger has a team — partly based in NYC — that is working on the division of assets. But … as TMZ first told you … the key player is West Palm Beach lawyer Thomas Sasser, an expert in child custody agreements that involve more than one jurisdiction. - From TMZ

Radar - divorce is Elin’s idea
“There is no arguing any more,” one source close to the situation told RadarOnline.com. “They don’t fight. There is a coldness between them and it’s Elin who is pulling the plug on the marriage.”

Both Tiger and Elin have seen divorce lawyers multiple times, as RadarOnline.com reported exclusively. But it is Elin who is leading the way in ending the marriage because the damage from Tiger’s serial cheating has been too extensive to overcome.

“She tried to put things back together,” said the source. “She went to therapy with Tiger. She gave it a shot moving forward.”

But there were so many women and so many betrayals – including the daughter of a neighbor – that every time Elin and Tiger took a step forward, they would then take two steps back, the source told RadarOnline.com. - From Radar

Radar - they’re committed to joint custody
In the past month, they have spent only a few days together and both have seen divorce lawyers.

And one source familiar with the situation tells RadarOnline.com that the couple will share joint custody of the children if the divorce goes through.

“They have not been getting along as a married couple but there has been no conflict over the children,” the source told RadarOnline.com. “They both want what’s best for the kids.

“This isn’t going to get ugly. They’ve both made sure of that.” - From Radar

Chicago Sun Times - divorce is almost finalized, Elin is house-hunting
Elin Nordegren — the maiden name Tiger Woods’ soon-to-be-ex-wife now prefers — has been house-hunting in South Florida. One requirement: a guest house where Tiger can stay when he visits the couple’s children.

The huge financial issues have been resolved. Along with very specific custody issues, Elin reportedly is insisting their divorce settlement include a pledge by Tiger to keep their two children his ”principal heirs,” even if he eventually remarries and has more kids. - From Chicago Sun Times

[From various sources linked in text]

While Tiger and Elin are working to make their split legal and final, Tiger is dealing with a neck injury that may derail his golf career for months. He withdrew from the Players Championship in Florida over the weekend due to an injury, which one reporter mistakenly called a “bulging dicks”. Tiger held a press conference on Monday explaining his injury. He said that he’s “getting old” and his game is “not where I would like it to be. There are a lot of things going on in my life.”

You have to admire the way Elin has handled this whole thing. She’s quietly gone about her business and hasn’t said a word to the press as far as we can tell. She’s also allegedly working to ensure that her children will receive an inheritance in the event that Tiger remarries. I’m still hoping that she’ll grant at least one interview, but it might be in her best interests just to lay low, take the money and keep her divorce as press free as possible.

Tiger Woods announces he will take an indefinite break from golf

Elin Woods photographed jogging in Sweden, Tiger visits divorce lawyer

Quail Hollow Championship - Round Two
Tiger Woods’ estranged wife Elin was photographed out jogging in her native Sweden over the weekend. (We don’t have rights to those photos but you can see them here.) Elin retreated to Sweden two weeks ago with the couples’ two children, daughter Sam, nearly three, and son Charlie, 15 months. Recently we’ve heard that their “divorce showdown” is “imminent” and that Tiger may have confessed to as many as 120 affairs as part of his sex addiction therapy. Adding credence to the story that these two are about to announce a divorce any day now is a new report that Tiger has consulted with a well known celebrity divorce lawyer in his area. This follows reports that Elin is moving forward with the divorce and that she’s met with lawyers as well.

Tiger Woods may have hired himself one of the most high-profile attorneys in the business when it comes to multi-million dollar sport star divorces, RadarOnline.com has learned.

According to the New York Daily News, Tiger has met with Jeff Fisher, who represented golfer Greg Norman in his split from wife Laura, and Brooke Gordon in her divorce battle against NASCAR superstar Jeff Gordon.

Fisher is based in West Palm Beach, FL. He enjoys the local media attention that’s come from his many cases involving the super-rich, but that’s something that may put him at odds with the very private Woods.

[From Radar Online]

Tiger’s tumultuous personal life may be taking a serious toll on his once-stratospheric golf career. He didn’t even qualify to compete for the last two days in the Quail Hollow Championship in North Carolina over the weekend. A 20 year-old Irish player, Rory McIlroy, won his first championship with a record setting 10 under par to defeat Phil Mikkelson. McIlroy is the youngest player to win a tournament since a then-22 year-old Tiger Woods in 1996. Again, Tiger didn’t even make the cut this time.

In amusing related news, one of Tiger’s countless mistresses has filed a lawsuit against the Ritz Carlton for canceling her reservations at their Charlotte, North Carolina location without her consent. Adult entertainer Joslyn James is on a tour of the country’s strip clubs that roughly parallel’s Tiger’s golfing schedule. Her lawyer, the ubiquitous Gloria Allred, penned an e-mail to the hotel’s general manager that claims that James was barred from the hotel because Tiger planned to stay at the Ritz Carlton that same weekend. Allred claims her client was told that she could not stay there because “she was a high profile guest and they were concerned about media attention.” Allred blasted the Ritz for allegedly favoring Woods over James and wrote “we are appalled to think that you might have chosen to accommodate a rich, famous golfer who has admitted lying to his wife, his fans, his business associates and others over a woman whose heart he has broken and whose only fault is that she fell madly in love with Tiger Woods.” You know that Woods brings a bigger entourage with him and that James isn’t going to be able to afford to stay at the Ritz once she’s no longer able to trade on her connection to Tiger. It’s not like she’s a steady customer. Tiger is going to spending his money on hookers and hotels for several years until it runs out. If he doesn’t watch it he won’t even have a golf career to distract him from his womanizing.
