The NAACP has been chasing down racism for years. Most recently, they lashed out at The Tea Party for racist remarks. But now, it looks like they failed to look in their own backyard. USDA official, Shirley Sherrod gave a speech at the NAACP and ended up in hot water. Pop it to see what she said and why the NAACP shouldn’t throw stones.

After weeks of condemning racism among members of the Tea Party, The NAACP has had to condemn the actions of one of their own. USDA Rural Development Director, Shirley Sherrod resigned over comments she made in a speech at the NAACP’s 20th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet. A video was released of Sherrod telling the crowd how she denied proper assistance to a white farmer who came to her for assistance.

“The first time I was faced with having to help a white farmer save his farm, he took a long time talking but he was trying to show me he was superior to me. I know what he was doing, but he had come to me for help. What he didn’t know while he was taking all that time trying to show me he was superior to me was, I was trying to decide just how much help I was going to give him,” Sherrod said.

“I was struggling with the fact that so many black people had lost their farmland, and here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land. So I didn’t give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough,” Sherrod said. “So that when he, I assumed the Department of Agriculture had sent him to me, either that or the Georgia Department of Agriculture, and he needed to go back and report that I did try to help him.”

The NAACP has since issued a statement condemning the actions of Shirley Sherrod and those of the NAACP members who applauded her acts of discrimination.

We concur with US Agriculture Secretary Vilsack in accepting the resignation of Shirley Sherrod for her remarks at a local NAACP Freedom Fund banquet.

Racism is about the abuse of power. Sherrod had it in her position at USDA. According to her remarks, she mistreated a white farmer in need of assistance because of his race.

We are appalled by her actions, just as we are with abuses of power against farmers of color and female farmers.

Her actions were shameful. While she went on to explain in the story that she ultimately realized her mistake, as well as the common predicament of working people of all races, she gave no indication she had attempted to right the wrong she had done to this man.

The reaction from many in the audience is disturbing. We will be looking into the behavior of NAACP representatives at this local event and take any appropriate action.

Sherrod’s behavior is even more intolerable in light of the US Department of Agriculture’s well documented history of denying opportunities to African American, Latino, Asian American, and Native American farmers, as well as female farmers of all races.

It is being argued that Sherrod’s comments were taken out of context. Apparently, she was telling the story of a time when she discriminated against someone else and how she has realized the error of her ways since then. Either way, that doesn’t explain the reaction of the NAACP officials in the audience.

Mel Gibson has been caught on tape once again making more horrible racist remarks, this time calling one of his staffers a "wetback" during a recorded argument with Oksana Grigorieva.

He says in the tape that he wants to turn a worker in to the immigration authorities, using the slur:

"I will report her to the fucking people that take fucking money from the wetbacks."

Mel STILL hasn't apologized or even acknowledged the tapes that have surfaced.

What a vile, disgusting human being — can he get any worse??

And just how many more tapes are there, Mel?
